Project summary

A healthy start forms the basis for optimum participation in education, the labor market, and society. Investing in the health of future generations starts with the unborn child and his/her parents, even before pregnancy. The chance of a healthy start is not evenly distributed: children of women in disadvantaged neighborhoods run a greater risk of perinatal death, premature birth and low birth weight. Not only medical, but also non-medical factors (such as poverty, debt, housing, isolation and psychosocial problems) play an important role.
A coherent approach that combines good care with attention to underlying problems is needed. Municipalities play an important role in this. They are responsible for the social domain and the local health policy, and they can connect to the medical domain. In this way they can help prevent health inequalities later in life.
Healthy Pregnancy 4 All has taken the first steps towards reducing perinatal health differences through cooperation between pre-/ante-natal caregivers and municipalities.
