Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by standard esophageal resection versus “active surveillance” in the esophageal carcinoma.
The outlook for esophageal cancer is often not good, even after major surgery. This operation is very drastic and can reduce the quality of life. Unnecessary operations must therefore be avoided.
Impact
With this study, the researchers want to determine whether major surgery is still necessary in patients whose esophageal cancer has practically disappeared after chemoradiotherapy.
